HARTFORD’S annual NSPCC Rose Fete hit the ‘High Notes’ this year thanks to a special visit from Northwich’s latest celebrity.

The 61st Young NSPCC Hartford Rose Fete took place on Saturday, when it was blessed with hot weather and good crowds, ensuring that it was the most successful to date, raising more than £5,000.

Helena Leonard, of Britain’s Got Talent duo Floral High Notes, returned to her roots to support the community and the NSPCC. Although inundated for autograph requests – found time to crown this year’s Rose Queen, Millie Johns.

Millie was attended by Bouquet Bearer, Maddie Thomas and Crown Bearer, Jacob Hatton.

Lord Mayor of Chester, Clr John Ebo together with his wife, Miriam, opened the proceedings.

Although only being in office for a month, the Mayor spoke of his commitment to visit and support as many village events as possible throughout Cheshire West, as he said they play such and important part in bringing communities together.

The Fairy Queen, Helena Stanton was crowned by Peter Laycock, from the NSPCC.

Hartford Princess was Olivia Shinkfield, Hartford Prince was Alex Woodfinden and Rachel Hatton was named Hartford Rosebud.

Retiring Queen, Paige Walker spoke of her time representing the Young NSPCC and thanked the committee, family, friends and everyone who had supported her throughout the past year, during which she has already raised more than £1,000 for the NSPCC.

Entertainment during the afternoon was provided by the South Cheshire Pipe Band, which also led the procession, Tina Norcup Junior and Senior Dancers, Hartford Karate Display Group, Bollin Brass Band, Hartford School of Gymnastics, Sue Morgan Dancers and the Air Cadets Band.

Linda Barnes, rose fete committee member, said: “The committee, as ever, is grateful for the support of everyone who has contributed in some way towards making the event a successful and pleasurable occasion for the whole community, whilr raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”
