MOURNERS paid a heartfelt tribute to a much loved bellringer in Middlewich when St Michael and All Angels Church muffled its bells during her funeral.
Betty Garnett, 79, of Simonswood Close, a former dinner lady, was remembered with a service of thanksgiving on January 29.
The bells were half muffled to give a mournful effect and to pay tribute to Mrs Garnett’s passion for bellringing.
Rev Ian Bishop said: “”I knew Betty very well. She was a member of the church for many years and a bellringer for many more.
“So it’s lovely that they did that for her. It was a super funeral – a real celebration of so much that was good about her.
“She was a lady that did a lot for the community over the years.”
