MORE than £2,000 seized during a police raid at a Middlewich house has been forfeited by a court.

PC Mike Senior, from Middlewich CAT team, confiscated £2,020 from the premises in Lawrence Avenue East in December 2007 when a quantity of cocaine was found.

The two occupiers Melanie and Anthony Delaney were later fined £150 each for possession of a Class A drug.

A judge at Crewe Civil Court ruled last month that although the legitimacy of the cash was contested it was deemed to be a proceed of drug related crime.

PC Mike Senior said: “The Proceeds of Crime Act allows officers to conduct cash seizures and is a very useful and effective tool in the fight against drug related crime.

“It is ironic now for the criminals to know that the money taken from their criminal activity is ploughed back into the funds to fight crime.

“Criminals should be aware that we will utilise every law available to us to recover assets relating to illegal activity.

“If you know of anyone who is involved in the supply of drugs in the area please contact the Police in confidence on 0845 4580000.”
