A BIKER was killed after the mudguard on his classic motorcycle became dislodged and caused him to lose control on a main road in Dutton.
Robert Barnett was riding his Velocette motorbike along the A533 on Wednesday, June 3, when he lost control and fell.
After giving emergency treatment at the scene, paramedics took the 76-year-old to Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool, which specialises in head injuries.
Despite an operation to insert a pressure monitor in his skull, Mr Barnett was placed on end-of-life care on Thursday, June 11.
The retired mechanic sadly died two days later on Saturday, June 13.
At an inquest hearing at Cheshire Coroners’ Court in Warrington on Wednesday, September 9, assistant coroner, Elizabeth Wheeler, revealed the finding of the accident investigation.
She said: “Vehicle examination identified the mudguard had become displaced on the bike, which likely caused the loss of control.”
Ms Wheeler recorded a medical cause of death as traumatic brain injury following a road traffic collision.
She concluded the death of Mr Barnett, of Newcastle Road, Congleton, was accidental.
Addressing his family on the record of inquest, she said: “I am sincerely sorry for your loss.”
