ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour measures in a Winsford alleyway could remain in place for another three years as residents are asked whether a locked gate should stay.

Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) has launched a consultation a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) covering the alleyway between Pinewood Road and Whitby's Lane, which was introduced to help tackle crime, disorder, and anti-social behaviour.

The order is one of 14 alley gating PSPOs across the borough which are due to expire in October, and must be reviewed before a decision is made on whether they should continue.

PSPOs are used to tackle activities which have a detrimental effect on local communities and give councils and police extra powers to address anti-social behaviour in specific areas.

The Pinewood Road order allows the council to restrict public access through a locked gate at the alleyway.

The council said alley gating measures are only introduced where other reasonable attempts to prevent and reduce anti-social behaviour have been exhausted.

Cllr Stuart Bingham, cabinet member for community safety and neighbourhood pride, said: "The views of residents are important in helping us review this gating PSPO.

"We want to understand the impact it has had had on reducing anti-social behaviour and crime, and the feedback received will help ensure any future decisions are informed by those most directly affected."

The consultation will run until Wednesday, September 30, after which the council will decide whether the Pinewood Road order should be extended, varied, or allowed to lapse.

Residents can take part online, by email, telephone or post.
