THE A556 was closed in one direction due to a car fire near the Lostock Triangle.

The incident came on the same day, Friday, as a lorry fire on the M6 Northbound.

The A556 was closed westbound according to a post on social media by police.

There was heavy traffic as a consequence of the cumulative effect of both blazes.

A fire service spokesperson said firefighters battled the second of the blazes with a hose reel jet.

There were no reports of any injuries as a result of the incident, a fire service spokesperson said.

In attendance at the scene were fire engines from Knutsford Fire Station and Winsford Fire Station.

At the time a Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.”
