A NORTHWICH high school’s head teacher said he was 'so proud' of each and every pupil on this year's GCSE Results Day.

St Nicholas Catholic High School's students received their results in the sports hall on the morning of Thursday, August 20.

A-level Results Day was a record-breaking one for St Nick's and there was yet another strong showing on GCSE Results Day.

There were improvements in particular in both English and Maths according to the high school's head teacher Craig Burns.

He said: "GCSE results are an important milestone but behind every result is a young person with their own individual story."

He added: "I am so proud of them."

Among the success stories were Lisa Davies, who got all 8 and 9 grades, and Rafael Wong who got seven 8 and 9 grades.

At A-level Lisa is switching over to Sir John Deane's Sixth Form while Rafael is staying at St Nicholas Catholic Sixth Form.

Lisa, alongside proud parents Laura and Alan, said: "It is like a weight taken off my shoulders. I cannot thank the teachers enough."

Rafael, also a member of the Hallé Youth Choir and the Hallé Youth Orchestra, said: "I am delighted I do not know what else to say."

Adversity was the word for some students, such as Maisie Smart and Alex Bilyi, both of whom had an amazing number of passes.

Maisie has dyslexia and other health issues whereas Alex is only four years out from a move to the United Kingdom from Ukraine.

Maisie, who is to switch over to South Cheshire College, said: “[The school] have supported everyone through everything even when it gets tough.”

Alex, who is to stay at St Nicholas Catholic Sixth Form, said: “It was a bit difficult but it was alright. I had very little English but then it has improved.”

Mr Burns told the Northwich and Winsford Guardian: "We wish every one of them every success for the future."
