SIR John Deane's Sixth Form College has had more staggering success on a sun-soaked A-level Results Day.

The school said more than a fifth of entries achieved an A* and more than half of entries achieved an A* or A.

The stats were well above those for the Cheshire West and Chester Council area and the country as a whole.

They assured hundreds of pupils of places at top educational establishments en route to their chosen careers.

There were many more smiling faces among the BTEC students all of whom were awarded at the least a merit.

Oxford-bound Noah Wilson, who is one of the head students, is off to do a degree in chemistry with three A*s in chemistry, maths and further maths, plus an A in physics.

Noah told The Guardian: "I have not had the easiest of rides with a few ups and downs but everyone has been amazing allowing me the room and the resources to do it.

"It is a big relief so a big thanks to the Oxbridge Programme and the wellbeing support staff."

Lucy Prescott and Mai-Sze Jukes are on the way to Edge Hill University and Manchester Metropolitan University respectively.

Lucy got A*, B, C, to seal a spot on a psychology course while Mai-Sze got A*, A, A to secure a spot on a fashion design course.

Lucy said: "It is very stressful but it is a very supportive school."

And Mai-Sze said: "It is really good, it is a relief, I am so happy."

Christopher Atherton, the principal of Sir John Deane's, and Matthew Snelson, the chief executive of Sir John Brunner Foundation, were full of praise.

The school is one of four in total to be a part of the foundation along with County High School, Macclesfield Academy and Middlewich High School.

Mr Atherton said: "We had a high bar from last year and we have done even better in our high grades.

"They are getting brilliant places at brilliant unis and they are going on to be really, really successful."

And Mr Snelson said: "It is lovely because the students bring their families and their friends.

"There are a lot of exciting futures and the sun always seems to shine on us on results day."
