Search the Public Notice PortalMORE town centre living could be on the way in Crewe with a proposal to convert three floors above the New Look store into apartments.
J Charles Property Services has submitted a prior approval application in relation to plans to change the use of the upper floors and part of the ground floor of the existing commercial building on Delamere Street to create 11 self-contained flats.
The planning statement, submitted by Daniel Matthius Architecture on the applicant’s behalf, states the commercial use would be retained at ground floor level.
The application is for a mix of one and two-bed apartments with new separate residential access, internal circulation cores with lift access and a secure courtyard, bin storage, and cycle parking for eight bikes to promote active travel.
The proposal also includes residents’ shared gym provision.
No car parking is proposed but the planning document says this is ‘appropriate for a central location’ and ‘consistent with sustainable development principles’.
At the time of writing one Crewe resident has commented on the application saying: “I think redevelopment in the town centre is needed as we need some improvement, there is a small worry about the lack of car parking spaces…
“The idea of having a gym is also a great idea.
“The building right now looks grim, so hopefully a little facelift would also be a benefit for Crewe.”
The application, number 26/2684/PRIOR-3MA, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council’s website.
