YOUNG rowers have made waves with impressive achievements on and off the water.

Middlewich High School students reached the finals of competitions incorporated into the All Aboard Youth Rowing programme, designed to build confidence and teamwork through the sport.

The school has taken part in the scheme for two years through a partnership with Northwich Rowing Club.

Lydia Naylor, headteacher at Middlewich High School, said: "This year our students have performed exceptionally well.

"At the final competition this year, schools from across the north west competed in Warrington.

"Our boys team finished first and our girls team finished second.

"This was a fantastic achievement."

Among this year’s stand-out performers was Isabella Towey, who reached the indoor finals at the Copper Box and set a personal best with the second-fastest time in her race.

Both Isabella and Max Bloor have since been invited to join Northwich Rowing Club.

The programme has helped students develop confidence, resilience, and wellbeing, said the school's headteacher.

She added: "We are very grateful for the support and coaching the students have received from the coaches at Northwich Rowing club."
