A HISTORIC rail tour will head to Shakespeare's Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The Retro Cestrian Bard, operated by Retro Railtours and promoted by the Mid Cheshire Rail Users' Association (MCRUA), will travel the Mid Cheshire Line on Saturday, August 22.

The day trip picks up passengers at Altrincham, Knutsford, Northwich, and Chester before heading to Stratford-Upon-Avon, known for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

The return journey will traverse the Malvern Hills and Welsh Marches.

MCRUA promises the train will offer comfort with Mark 3 air-conditioned coaches hauled by Class 37 diesel locomotives.

A reserved seating arrangement ensures no rush for seats.

On-board attractions include a buffet offering hot and cold refreshments, and Retro Railtours' popular hand-pumped Real Ale Bar, one of the few operating on Britain's main line railway.

As an additional treat, passengers will have approximately three hours to explore the charismatic Stratford-Upon-Avon.

This is a golden opportunity to trace the footprints of Shakespeare, stroll along historic streets, amble in verdant riverside walks, and immerse oneself in the unique cultural milieu.

MCRUA members and their companions are entitled to a 15 per cent concession on standard class fares.

Further about the tour and ticket booking information can be accessed via mcrua.org.uk.
