A WINSFORD residential home required improvement after an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

The Laurels Care Home received a rating from the watchdog for the first time in around six years last week.

The Walnut Drive residential home required improvement in two of the key questions in 2020 and this was still the same in 2026.

It was good in all other areas but the areas it was in need of improvement were 'Is the service safe?' and 'Is the service well-led?'.

It was also in breach of one of the regulations relating to good governance under the Health and Social Care Act (Regulated Activities) Regulations.

According to the report most of the residents, relatives and staff were positive about the care home, and in particular about the care home manager.

It said: "At the last inspection the rating was requires improvement and at this inspection the rating remains requires improvement.

"The provider was previously in breach of the regulation in relation to good governance and it remained in breach of this regulation."

The Laurels Care Home has space for 40 adult residents at its site on Walnut Drive.

Among them are a number of adults residents with additional needs such as dementia.

A spokesperson said: "We focus on providing the highest quality care for all of our residents and we are clearly disappointed that the CQC has highlighted two elements of the service that require improvement.

"A new manager was appointed prior to the CQC's inspection and they made significant progress in ensuring the home achieved good ratings for being caring, effective and responsive.

"The team has been working collaboratively with the local authority to deal with the issues highlighted in the inspection, which took place in March, and we look forward to the CQC's next visit when hopefully the two highlighted areas will also achieve a rating of good."

The Care Quality Commission is the inspector of health and social care providers across England.

It inspects five areas of health and social care provision on a scale of 'inadequate' to 'outstanding'.

The Laurels Care Home:

Safe - Requires Improvement - 56 out of 100
Effective - Good - 63 out of 100
Caring - Good - 75 out of 100
Responsive - Good - 68 out of 100
Well-Led - Requires Improvement - 61 out of 100
