RESIDENTS in Wincham are being invited to learn more about a £1 million water pipe project which could cause months of disruption on the roads.

In late July, United Utilities (UU) will begin work on a scheme to replace more than four kilometres of pipes along the main streets in the village.

The works aim to help make the water network more resilient, reduce leaks and bursts, improve reliability, and strengthen the network to meet future demand.

As the works are anticipated to take around 14 weeks to complete, UU is inviting residents to a drop-in event on Thursday, June 11, between 3pm and 7pm at the Wincham Community Centre in Church Street.

Streets affected by the works include Chapel Street, Wincham Lane, Church Street, and Pickmere Lane, while some works will also take place in Green Lane, Linnards Lane, and around John Fryer Avenue.

A UU spokesman said: "The project forms part of United Utilities’ wider commitment to the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in a century, with more than £13 billion being spent over the next five years to enhance rivers, lakes, and bathing waters across the North West."
