SURPLUS bread is being delivered to those in need across the North West.
Roberts Bakery in Rudheath has teamed up with FareShare Greater Manchester, a food redistribution charity, to donate unsold goods to people facing financial hardship in Northwich and beyond.
The partnership means surplus bread, rolls, and seasonal items like hot cross buns will be given to community groups and charities supporting those most in need.
Under the scheme, the bakery is currently donating two lorry loads of products every week, totalling around five tonnes of food - or roughly 5,000 loaves.
Will Harrop, sustainability manager at Roberts Bakery, said: "Roberts Bakery has been part of this area for almost 140 years, and with so many of our colleagues living locally, we know first-hand the pressures many households are facing right now.
"As a significant local employer, we believe we have an important role to play in supporting our communities, particularly those who are dealing with rising living costs and very tight household budgets.
"By working with FareShare Greater Manchester, we can make sure that good food which would otherwise go to waste instead reaches people in the local area who need it most."

These charities support people struggling with the rising cost of living.
Over the course of a year, the Roberts Bakery partnership could result in 50 or more collections of surplus baked goods.
Ruth Downes, head of development at FareShare Greater Manchester, said: "FareShare Greater Manchester are incredibly grateful to receive surplus bread from Roberts Bakery.
"This support helps us provide food to more than 270 charities and community groups, including school breakfast clubs, refugee support centres, homeless shelters and community kitchens for older people - organisations making a real difference every day.
"Bread is such an important staple, helping provide meals at any time of day.
"Thank you for helping us support our communities."
This latest partnership comes just six months after the business was rescued from the brink of of collapse by Boparan Private Office.
The agreement with FareShare marks a further step in the company’s continued recovery and its ongoing commitment to supporting local communities.
The scheme also supports the bakery’s wider goals of reducing food waste while positively impacting neighbouring communities.
