A RUDHEATH nursery now boasts a defibrillator after an Olympic-themed fundraising week.

Chrysalis Day Nursery in Dalby Court at the Gadbrook Business Centre raised more than £4,500, which will be split between the life-saving equipment and St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford.

The nursery recently held the ‘Chrysalis Olympics Week’ which had everyone from the babies up to the pre-school room participating in an array of events.

Children had lots of fun whilst taking part in activities such as the egg and spoon race, an obstacle course, and the wheelbarrow race.

Rachel Cartmell, the nursery manager, said: “It is simply amazing, the parents have been so generous.

"We weren’t too sure if the event was going to raise a lot of money so we are just amazed to hit such a figure.

“During our first aid training it made me realise that we actually haven’t got a defibrillator, despite being trained on how to use one.

“It’s so important that we have one for both the children and the staff and it’s just so timely when you use it that we needed one as close as possible.

“The defibrillator now means that there’s another way of safeguarding the children which is the most important thing to me.”

Sponsored by their parents, the children helped to raise an outstanding total of £4,587.

The remainder of the money from the event is being donated to St Luke’s Hospice as they work closely with the local nursery.

Rachel added: “St Luke’s support a lot of our staff, children and their families so they are incredibly close to our heart.

“We have simply been blown away by everyone helping and supporting us and we just want to celebrate that.”
