AN AI-powered safety platform has been launched to help transform industrial safety.

The new system, developed by Winsford-based Safety Shield Global, is designed for use in industries such as construction, infrastructure and heavy industry.

Named Nexus, the Edge AI intelligence platform filters and contextualises live operational data from sites, enabling frontline teams to focus on only the most critical safety events.

Live infrastructure trials are currently being held on a major UK infrastructure project, with initial results showing a 95 per cent reduction in safety data noise.

It represents a step forward from traditional detection-only systems by moving towards real-time, risk-based decision-making.

Jonathan Guest, founder and CEO of Safety Shield Global, said: "Nexus is the next generation of Human Form Recognition.

"It transforms how safety data is analysed and ensures the people who need to know about immediate danger are informed instantly.

"Initial testing shows Nexus can reduce the number of incidents requiring workforce action by up to 95 per cent, ensuring only the most critical events are escalated while everything else is retained safely for future analysis.

"My mission has never changed – to stop plant hitting people.

"Any death or life-changing injury is one too many.

"These incidents are always avoidable, and Nexus is a major step towards making that a reality."

Unlike conventional systems that alert teams to every possible incident, Nexus classifies each event using a scenario-based risk scoring system, flagging only those incidents requiring urgent action.

High-priority alerts are delivered instantly to frontline workers via Safety Shield’s S.T.R.E.A.M app, enabling immediate, in-context responses and interventions.

The platform was developed on NVIDIA hardware and remains site-specific.

It does not rely on external datasets or public internet models, making it domain-specific and tailored to each operational environment.

Founded in 2018 after a close friend of Jonathan's died in an excavator-related incident, Safety Shield Global has become one of the UK’s leading developers of AI-powered People-Plant Interface (PPI) safety systems.

The technology is also being used in sectors including forestry, quarrying, utilities, highways, and waste management.

Clients include Balfour Beatty, AmcoGiffen, Sunbelt, Lynch, and Flannery.

With the introduction of Nexus, Safety Shield Global aims to move the industry beyond detection-based safety systems towards real-time operational intelligence designed to prevent incidents before they happen.
