AN independent second-hand bookshop has celebrated a hugely successful first year in business by throwing a party for its customers.

Husband and wife Tim and Annie Olsen opened Cover2Cover in Northwich last year and celebrated the store's first birthday on Saturday, April 11.

Celebrations at the Witton Street shop, which also included local author Danny Williams' book launch, lasted throughout the day, with many visitors sharing wonderful feedback.

Dozens of customers old and new flocked to Cover2Cover for the event to the delight of Tim and Annie, who attribute their success to the warm welcome and continued support they have received.

Tim said: "I am not exaggerating when I say it was a day of positivity, the people who came in were very happy.

"We were a bit overwhelmed as we did triple out usual sales, which was just incredible and made it feel so worthwhile.

"We were exhausted by the time we closed. It was amazing - it was a great way to start the second year."

The Olsens' shop offers an eclectic mix of literature, boasting a 3,500-strong collection of vintage science fiction books as well as plenty of contemporary non-fiction works.

To stock the shop, Tim and Annie have received generous donations from friends and members of the public, as well as keeping an eye on auctions and Facebook marketplace.

But more than just selling books, the couple have created a relaxing and welcoming area within the store where visitors can enjoy a little read and a friendly chat.

Annie and Tim were confident the store would be a success, but they have not rested on their laurels in encouraging customers through the door.

Tim added: "I never once thought, when we opened this bookshop, that it would fail.

"Having a successful first year is something we are both very proud of. It has been a learning process.

"We are doing what we can to keep avenues open - you have to stay on top of it to be successful."

To that end, Tim and Annie have more book launches planned and are hoping to hold a book fair in Northwich this autumn.

Cover2Cover is also producing 10 per cent off flyers, to be distributed at the town's artisan market, to encourage more people to pay a visit to the shop, which can be found near Northwich Library.
