DRIVERS in Middlewich are being warned of a disruptive road closure after months of temporary traffic lights and speed restrictions following a crash.

Croxton Lane, A530, will close for up to five days from Monday, March 16, as Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) rebuild the bridge over the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Temporary lights have been in place on the approach to the stricken bridge since the end of November last year after a driver in a BMW, a man in his 20s, struck it.

This was the second time the canal crossing was in need of repair recently after an incident involving a Seat Ibiza and a Toyota RAV4 in September 2024.

Speed restriction have also been in place on the approach to the narrowed section of the road.

The new full closure will be in place 24 hours a day.

A CWAC spokesman said: “Following damage caused by a vehicle impact, we’ll be carrying out important repair and rebuild works on the bridge parapet on Croxton Lane (A530), on the north side of Middlewich.

“To keep everyone safe while this work takes place, the road will be closed from Monday, March 16, for up to five days.

“The closure will remain in place overnight until the repairs are complete.

“The were be a signed diversion route using the A533 and A566.

“Thank you for your patience while we make these vital safety repairs.”
