A BRIDGE on a popular walk near Winsford is set to close for 19 days to allow for essential repair works to take place.

Marton Bridge on Whitegate Way, which allows for pedestrians, cyclists, and horses to pass over the road below, will shut from March 23 to April 10.

During this time, Cheshire West and Chester Council will installing a new bridge deck with non-slip surfacing; new higher side barriers for improved safety; and upgraded approach fencing on both sides of the bridge.

The carriageway below - Whitegate Road - will remain open to motorists throughout the repair works, however temporary traffic lights will be in place from today, March 16.

A CWAC spokesman said: "Marton Bridge, near Winsford, will be closed to all pedestrians, horses, and cyclists from March 23 to April 10 to allow essential repair works to take place.

"Temporary traffic lights will be in place from March 16 to April 10, but vehicles will still be able to travel under the bridge as normal.

"Thank you for your patience while we complete these upgrades."
