A DELIVERY driver who hugged and kissed a female customer against her will after grabbing her from behind did not know his vile actions were being filmed.
Rana Jahangir was working in Northwich on Tuesday, September 2, last year, when he got a job dropping off food at a home in Rudheath.
A woman answered the door, but once he had given her the food, he grabbed her from behind and started hugging and kissing her.
The 25-year-old kept up his unwanted attentions for more than a minute, despite her repeatedly telling him to stop.
His victim did not report the assault to police to begin with, but did make a complaint to the delivery company.
The following day, she changed her mind after taking to friends, and Jahangir was arrested.
Jahangir, of Collington Close, Manchester, denied sexually assaulting the victim and claimed his actions were all consensual.
But what he did not know was, part of the assault had been filmed on a mobile phone which became valuable evidence when police came to charge him with one count of sexual assault.
After a trial at Chester Crown Court ending on Friday, February 27, Jahangir was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to two years, four months in prison.
He has also been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years, and handed a restraining order which prevents him from contacting the victim.
Following the guilty verdict, Detective Constable Sarah Ollier, said: “During questioning, Jahangir denied sexually assaulting the victim, instead claiming it was consensual.
“Even when we presented him with the mobile phone footage, he continued to deny the allegations, claiming the victim had set him up.
“Thankfully, the jury saw through his lies, and he has been held accountable for his actions.
“I welcome the sentenced handed to Jahangir and I hope it provides some reassurance to the victim.
“We will continue to do all we can to tackle any incident of violence against women and take all reports of such crimes extremely seriously.
"We will investigate them thoroughly to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”
