A REMOVALS firm in Knutsford with more than 150 years of heritage has gone into administration.

According to The Gazette, the official newspaper of Companies House, administrators were appointed at Johnsons 1871 on Wednesday, January 28.

The King Edward Road firm offered home removal services, office and laboratory relocation, storage, and cleaning services, as well as furniture installation, asset recycling, and remanufacturing.

However, management consultancy, Leonard Curtis, has confirmed the family-owned business was sold the same day joint administrators, Steve Muncaster and Andrew Poxon, were appointed.

The purchase, by Amer Logistics Ltd, has safeguarded the jobs of all the company's 150 employees.

According to its latest accounts filed at Companies House, Johnsons reported a turnover of £29 million, but profits of just £56,291 in financial year 2023/24.

Speaking to Daily Express, Mr Muncaster said: said: "We are delighted to have completed a sale of this long-established business, so preserving the employment of the entire workforce, and allowing its extensive customer base to continue to work with the business.”

On its website, the company lays claim to some enormous clients including Npower, the NHS, the Co-operative, B&Q, Barclays, and BBC Cymru Wales.
