AN ‘irate’ dog groomer from Pickmere kicked and elbowed three police officers called to her home over an alleged domestic disturbance.

Jacqui Byrne got angry and started shouting and behaving aggressively towards the officers at her Mere Lane home, shortly after midnight on Saturday, January 3.

She kicked one officer in the leg and was arrested, and then on arrival at the custody suite, 'lunged at' and elbowed another.

Once inside, she kicked a third officer.

In their incident report, the officers described the 52-year-old's behaviour as ‘irate’ and ‘aggressive’.

Byrne, a Crufts puppy champion, appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 28, where she faced three counts of assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duties.

She pleaded guilty to all three offences, claiming she had been having menopause symptoms at the time of the attack, and was also mourning the death of her brother.

Byrne also claimed she was wearing only pyjamas when police arrived at her house, and they had refused to let her put on a bra and a jumper.

Magistrates fined her £200, ordered her to pay £85 court costs, and an £80 victim surcharge.

No further action was taken over the alleged domestic dispute.
