DESPITE facing adversity, this pupil has consistently gone to school with a smile on her face, eager to learn and ready to tackle any challenge that comes her way.

That's why Oliwia Kotlowska, a Year 6 pupil at Weaverham Primary Academy, has been chosen as the very worthy winner of our Pupil of the Year award.

Oliwia relocated with her family to the UK to support her younger sister's medical needs, who was diagnosed with brain cancer.

One of several nominations read: "Oliwia joined our school last year, and it has been a privilege to get to know her and witness the resilience and positivity she brings to our community.

"She relocated to the UK with her family to support her sister’s medical needs, and despite the challenges this has presented—including regular visits to Alder Hey—Oliwia remains consistently committed to her learning.

"Her academic progress is never compromised; she approaches every task with determination and gives her absolute best.

"Oliwia communicates openly with staff when she requires additional time or support, demonstrating maturity and self-awareness beyond her years.

"She arrives each day with a smile, impeccably dressed and ready to engage.

"Her attitude, work ethic, and kindness make her a true credit to our school."

Oliwia's sister, Victoria, is now in Reception, and Oliwia is always looking out for her sister at school.

Head teacher Jo Price praised Oliwia's resilience, adding: "She's just a wonderful little girl who is so selfless.

"She's always willing to help others, and she's just lovely.

"Oliwia loves school and always wants more challenges and homework.

"Last year, sometimes she missed school when her sister was in Alder Hey, and she had to go with her.

"She always completed her work even if she wasn't at school.

"She helps to look after her sister at home and is very protective of her at school."
