AN off-road driving and 4x4 festival in Winsford with onsite camping is opening its gates to the public for the first time.

The Northwest 4x4 Show, organised by Northwest Flex 4x4 Club, has always been by invitation only up until this year, catering for off-road club members only.

But 2026’s event, taking place Early May Bank Holiday weekend at Clive Farm, on Clive Green Lane, is open to all, though to attend you have to camp onsite - there are no day visitors allowed.

The festival is a chance for 4x4 enthusiasts to get together and show off their beloved off-road vehicles, which include overland vehicles, military vehicles, tractors, and now even e-bikes.

At the heart of the show is the fully-marshalled offroad track, which holds daily competitions where drivers pit their skills and vehicles against one another, and the track itself.

With modified, custom, classic, and specialist off-road vehicles already booked, the show’s founder, Warrington-based roofer James Hunt, says there is something for everyone.

He said: “We’re a group of like-minded people with a shared passion for modifications, off-roading, and green laning.

“We’ve always run the festival for local clubs only, but this year we’ve decided to open it up to all.

“But there is loads more going on beside the 4x4s.

“The Trent & Mersey Canal runs right through the farm, so there’s always water-based activities, including paddleboarding.

“Last year one lad brought a paddleboard with an outboard engine mounted on the back, which was a lot of fun.

“Each night we have a big communal campfire too, which has a fantastic atmosphere.

“In previous years, campers have always brought their own food to cook, but this year we’re also having a couple of food trucks too.

“For the kids, there are swings, giant Jenga, and cricket.

“The Tug o’ War always goes down well, and there will be trade stands and club stands."

The festival starts at 9am on Friday, May 1, and runs until Monday, May 4, at 6pm. Tickets are available here.

James added: “While the event is officially Friday to Monday, some people come on the Thursday night and set up camp, which is fine by us.

“It’s great value too at just £20 a car, and all onsite activities are free to campers.

"It's just to cover the costs."
