CLARE Briegal has been awarded an MBE for services to sport in the New Year Honours awarded by King Charles.

She certainly keeps herself very busy for the benefit of others.

While her competitive background is in rowing, she has strong connections in governance with table tennis and netball as well as rowing.

Briegal, 63, who was the first female captain of Northwich Rowing Club, is the current chair of Table Tennis England as well as deputy chair of British Rowing.

For the past six years she has been chair of Sport Liverpool, the board which oversees the delivery of Liverpool’s major sports events as well as bidding for the city's next events.

And until October she spent four years as an executive board member of The Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF).

She was chief executive of World Netball for 10 years until March 2024, and chair of North West Regional Rowing Council for six years until November 2022.

Briegal is a member of Cambridge University BC and Leander Club, as well as Northwich.

A former governor of The Grange School in Hartford, she has rowed since university and is a qualified multi-lane umpire and volunteer rowing administrator.

She has an MBA from Manchester Business School, an MA in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge, and an MA in biochemistry from Bryn Mawr College, USA.

Briegal moved into sports administration in 2012 following 25 years in sales, marketing and general management.

Her employment CV also includes time as deputy chair of Warrington & Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for whom she was a non-executive director between 2008 and 2014.
