Students and staff at Padgate Academy are celebrating the official opening of a completely refurbished teaching block — a major milestone in the school’s multi-million-pound programme to expand and modernise its facilities.

The new spaces are already in full use, and feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the modern design, improved layout, and fresh sense of pride the refurbishment has brought to their learning environment.

The project comes in response to the school’s significant growth in student numbers in recent years, creating the need for additional, high-quality teaching and learning spaces. The newly opened area features state-of-the-art classrooms, computer suites and social spaces — all designed to enhance learning, inclusion, and wellbeing. Outside, a new astro turf area gives students an accessible, modern space for sport and recreation.

This extensive refurbishment is part of a major investment programme made possible through funding from The Challenge Academy Trust, the local authority, planned local housing developments, and additional grant funding. It follows two years of significant internal investment that has already delivered new food technology facilities, four new computer suites, a full-size astro turf pitch, and upgraded toilet facilities across both the main school and its designated provision.

These improvements reaffirm Padgate Academy’s commitment to providing the very best environment for its growing community of learners, ensuring all students benefit from modern, inspiring, and inclusive spaces. With more than £3 million already earmarked for further development over the next three years, the school is now actively planning the next phase of its development, looking ahead with confidence as it prepares to welcome even larger numbers of students in the coming years.

Principal Mr McMillan said:

“Our school has grown significantly in recent years, and it’s vital that our facilities grow with us. This investment allows us to provide our students with the state-of-the-art spaces they deserve — places where they can learn, thrive, and feel proud of their school.

The creation of our four new computer rooms has given us access to cutting-edge technology that truly future-proofs Padgate Academy. It has enabled us to introduce exciting new courses in Design, Photography, Health and Social Care, and Child Development, which perfectly complement our existing curriculum and expand the opportunities available to our students.

The response from students to the new facilities has been fantastic, and we are extremely grateful to our partners and the local community for their continued support as we move into the next phase of our development.”
