A TOWN centre has been recognised for the quality and cleanliness of its toilets.

The Penny Black, a Wetherspoon pub on Witton Street in Northwich, received a platinum grade in the 2025 Loo of the Year Awards, which are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of ‘away from home’ toilet provision across the UK.

Garry Deakin, manager of The Penny Black, said: "We are delighted with the grading.

"Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

The awards involve unannounced inspections of thousands of public toilets, which are assessed on criteria such as cleanliness, accessibility, décor, maintenance, and the quality of hand-washing and drying facilities.

Becky Wall, managing director of the Loo of the Year Awards, said: "The toilets at The Penny Black have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

"The pub deserves its platinum grading."
