A STRIKE by resident doctors is expected to disrupt services at Cheshire and Merseyside NHS trusts.
The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced the industrial action will take place from 7am on Friday, November 14, to 7am on Wednesday, November 19.
The strikes are anticipated to cause significant service disruption.
The NHS has assured the public that it has plans in place to mitigate risks to patient safety and manage any disruption.
However, it has acknowledged there will be some disruption to services on strike days.
Emergency care and other critical services, such as maternity departments, will remain open and life-threatening calls will be responded to.
Those with planned appointments should attend unless directly contacted by the NHS to reschedule.
People are also being urged to use NHS 111 Online as their first port of call for urgent health advice on the days of the strike.
NHS 111 Online can provide guidance on where to get help for symptoms, how to find general health information and advice, and how to obtain an emergency supply of prescribed medicine or repeat prescriptions.
The public is also being reminded to support the timely discharge of loved ones who are ready to leave hospital.
Local services will provide updates on their websites and social media accounts.
More information about when to call 999 and when to go to A&E is available via the national NHS website.
The NHS has stated that it will continue to deliver planned care where possible, particularly for patients in greatest clinical need.
