A POIGNANT commemoration service was held in Winsford today to pay tribute to the town’s courageous war heroes.

Eighty years ago today, World War Two was officially brought to an end with Japan’s surrender.

Winsford Town Council and the Royal British Legion joined forces to remember those who fought the Japanese military in Asia.

Crowds gathered in the sunshine at the town centre cenotaphs to mark Victory over Japan day.

The King, Queen and Prime Minister Keir Starmer gathered alongside crowds and veterans at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to pay their respects to those who fought the Japanese military in Asia.
