STAFF and pupils at a village primary school near Northwich are celebrating after it was recognised for its continuous commitment to sport and exercise.

For the past four years, Antrobus St Mark's Primary School has maintained a gold-level School Games Mark with its efforts promoting physical activities.

The School Games Mark is a government-led scheme award scheme championing the commitment to developing competitive sport within schools and communities.

And now, in its first year of eligibility and after months of hard work, Antrobus St Mark's has been awarded a platinum-level School Games Mark.

Head teacher Rhian Perry said: "As a small village school we are so proud of our pupils and their involvement in sports and exercise.

"This is years' worth of hard work which has led to this moment.

"Our families are such advocates for our school and support us with all our sporting events and this is an award for all of us."

To achieve the platinum award, which is valid for two years, the school submitted a special case study as part of its final assessment.

The school's case study focused on lunchtimes and how it could offer different physical activities to the pupils, including creating a new block play area and zoned areas on the grounds.

Miss Perry added: "Our sports crew help to deploy equipment and deliver activities for all ages and it has proven to be a huge success.

"Myself and our PE lead, Rachel Almond, could not be prouder."
