EVERY picture tells a story – and we want to hear the stories behind the photos you take.
Taking photos is second nature to most people with smart phones and tablets easily accessible to snap a quick shot and save the memory.
We’re launching a new feature that gives you the chance to share pictures that are special to you.
We want to see your favourite photos and hear the stories behind the images.
Why did you take the photo? Who’s in the picture? Why is it in your top five?
The feature is called Every Picture Tells A Story and will include photos that make you happy, sad, laugh or cry – it’s up to you.
First up is Alison Hamlin Hughes – she is 62 and lives in Higher Marston, Northwich.
Guardian Camera Club member Alison Hamlin Hughes
Alison has been taking photos since she was a teenager and she loves capturing moments in time.
She loves a good sunrise – a serene time with beautiful light that you don’t see during the rest of the day – and also trees.
Alison said: “The combination of trees and a beautiful sunrise or sunset sky can be truly spectacular.
“In my phone I have more than 6,000 pictures of trees!
“I only use my iPhone Pro Max these days for photography, but I originally started my photography journey with an old Zenit 11 fully manual film camera.
“I’ve owned a few DSLR cameras, but my iPhone is my first choice now – it’s so convenient and always in my pocket, so I never miss a thing!
“I normally take pictures in local areas like Marbury Park, but more recently I’ve been doing quite a bit of travel photography, which I’m thoroughly enjoying.”

For this feature the Mid Cheshire only rule doesn’t apply – the photos can be taken anywhere.
This photo makes me happy
Why does this photo make you happy?
This photo makes me happy because I never dreamt I would get to the giant Sequoia trees, let alone the largest one in the world. It lives in Sequoia National Park, in California. It’s 36ft in diameter at its base and 275ft tall.
This photo makes me sad
Why does this photo make you sad?
This photo makes me sad because I’m originally from Widnes, and like many other local residents, I’m sad that it Fiddler’s Ferry is being demolished. It’s always just been there, for most of my life. From where I live now, I used to be able to see the steam from the towers, so it was like a nice connection to home. When we were kids (young teens) back in the day without phones, we knew it was home time when the church bells rang at 10pm. Then at 11pm every night the power station made this big rumbling noise - you could feel it through the ground. If you were still out, then you knew were in big trouble when you got home! I think they should at least leave one tower standing for posterity.
This photo makes me laugh
Why does this photo make you laugh?
This photo makes me laugh because it’s actually a photo bomb. I was taking a photo of the autumn leaves on the steps in Marbury Park and just as I took it, this guy on his bike whizzed past. When I got home, I decided to track him down so I could give him a copy of the photo. I found him and he was made up!
This photo is special to me
Why is this photo special to you?
This is my biggest ever photo goal. I first saw a picture of this on Instagram and it really caught my eye. I had no idea what it was or where it was, but I really wanted to take my own photo of it. Turns out, it’s in a place called Beatty, which is in Death Valley in Nevada, so I thought there was no chance I would ever be able to photograph it. A couple of years later, we decided to do a USA road trip for our 20th wedding anniversary. Death Valley wasn’t really part of the plan, but we decided to add it to the trip - what an amazing experience it was and such a vast place. We found Ghost Rider in an openair museum, in the middle of nowhere. Goal accomplished, even though it was 7,000 miles away from home. It makes me dream of planning another epic road trip soon.
This photo makes me dream of something
Why does this photo make you dream of something?
This photo makes me dream of staying in a mountain cabin in Yosemite, something I would really love to do. I hope my dream comes true. We only passed through on our trips to the States, so we didn’t see very much. Everything we did see was breathtaking and this was my favourite photo.
