POLICE seized at least one vehicle and slapped more than 20 vehicle owners with penalty notices in a single weekend at Pickmere Lake.

The lake is a popular place for sunseekers and for swimmers in particular in warmer weather as on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22.

Over the weekend officers from Macclesfield Local Policing Unit and from Northwich Local Policing Unit were out in force and they seized at least one vehicle, an Audi Q3, and slapped more than 20 vehicle owners with penalty notices for problem parking.

A post on social media showed the SUV on a yellow line next to a yellow sign setting out the restrictions on some of the roads in the village.

The police are working with the local authority on additional restrictions as well as on problems such as anti-social behaviour and littering.

Chief Inspector Zoe Bowden, of Cheshire Police, said: "With all the recent hot weather we can understand the reason why so many are attracted to Pickmere Lake. However, it is essential that residents in the local area are able to go about their daily business.

"So far this year we have seen a reduction in the number of incidents in the area thanks to the work that we have already undertaken.

"However, during times of warmer weather we have seen some issues with more than 20 parking tickets issued last weekend alone.

"Therefore, I would urge anyone who is visiting the area to be considerate to the residents and ensure that they park respectfully and that they take their litter home.

"As we enter the summer period we will continue to step up patrols in the area to provide reassurance to local residents and issue further fines where appropriate."
