TRAVELLERS to and from the area around Leighton Hospital are in for rolling roadworks over the next few months.

The work is as a part of the new hospital north of the existing site and the new housing estate east of the existing site.

As a result there will be an impact on the A530 Middlewich Road as well as on the surrounding roads including Flower Lane, Brian Palin Way and Tottys Hall Way, all of which will be for essential electrical work. There is also the addition of a roundabout on Flower Lane.

Jim O'Brien, the engineering lead for the new hospital, said all the details of the rolling roadworks are to be announced.

Mr O'Brien said: "Building a new hospital is a major project which is why we must undertake some critical work in advance of the construction work.

"During this period it is likely traffic management measures will be in place which will impact travel around the area and to and from Leighton Hospital."

The announcement by the Department of Health and Social Care was an adjustment to a proposed spend of hundreds of millions of pounds and a proposed start time of 2026.

Mid Cheshire NHS Trust is aiming to submit an application for outline planning permission to Cheshire East Council this year and to submit an outline business case to the central government next year.

Previously Russ Favager, the responsible officer, said the trust's target is to start on the site around two years from now in spite of the suggestion it might not start on site for almost four years from now.

Mr Favager said: "The residents of Mid Cheshire and beyond can rest assured that the Healthier Futures programme is not slowing down. In fact it is the opposite."
