A COLLEGE has unveiled a new £2.2 million learning facility which will provide students with a 'world class environment in which they can thrive'.

Sir John Deane's Sixth Form College has officially opened its new Learning Centre, with the unveiling taking place at a ceremony on February 27.

Situated between the sports hall and the college's historic Brunner Hall, the facility boasts four modern classrooms, a dedicated staff room, offices, and a large study space.

Chris Atherton, the college's principal, was delighted with the new Learning Centre, which will 'benefit both students and staff for years to come'.

He said: "We are delighted to finally be able to show off this wonderful, new learning space, which supports our continued commitment to academic excellence.

"We believe in equipping our students with the best possible resources to help them succeed, and this new facility will provide them with the ideal environment to thrive academically.

"This new development is an exciting step forward for the college and will undoubtedly benefit students and staff alike for years to come."

Not only does the centre offer students an additional quiet area to work independently, it can also host events and talks.

The development also boosts the college’s sustainability credentials, by way of air source heat pumps, providing the heating and cooling functions of the new facility, together with solar panels and LED lighting throughout.

Matt Snelson, chief executive of The Sir John Brunner Foundation, said: “This investment offers students a world-class learning environment and further solidifies Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College’s position as the number one sixth form college in the country.”

Special guests at the unveiling ceremony included MP for Mid Cheshire, Andrew Cooper, local councillors, trustees, staff, and students.
