HOMES in Weaverham and Acton Bridge are at high risk of flooding.
The Environment Agency (EA) issued a red flood alert for the villages at 7.06am this morning (January 6), recommending residents ‘act now’.
Areas most at risk include properties close to the River Weaver along Warrington Road and Sandy Lane from 8am on Monday, January 6.
Levels on the River Weaver reached 5.93 metres at Pickering’s Cut at around 7.30am.
EA said Property flooding is possible when it goes above 5.99 metres, and more rainfall is forecast throughout the day.
EA usually issues a flood warning 30 minutes to two hours before flooding.
A spokesman for EA said: “River levels on the Weaver at Pickering's Cut are rising due to heavy rainfall.
"Property flooding is expected. Areas most at risk include properties close to the River Weaver along Warrington Road and Sandy Lane.
"More rainfall is forecast throughout Monday, January 6.
"Take care and avoid walking, cycling, or driving through flood water.
"Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and are monitoring rainfall."
