HARD-WORKING volunteers have been recognised for their efforts after a Northwich beauty spot received a top accolade.
Marbury Park, which lies at the heart of the Northwich Woodlands, has been given a gold medal in the North West in Bloom awards.
Boasting picturesque lime avenues and the arboretum, Marbury Park offers visitors numerous walks and trails to enjoy all year round.
And for around 25 years, a group of residents have worked as part of The Friends of Anderton and Marbury to play an active role in the park's future and organise events throughout the year.
Following a visit from award judges earlier this year, these efforts were recognised as Marbury Park was one of several across Cheshire West and Chester to receive an award in the Local Authority Large Parks category.
Cllr Karen Shore, Cheshire West and Chester Council's deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, transport and highways, said: “I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks and warmest congratulations to all the volunteers and groups involved in improving their community and bringing people together to make a positive change to the place they live, work or spend their leisure time.
"We were very proud of what we were able to show the judges and the results reflect the hard work of everyone involved in this year’s entries.
"This is a wonderful way to recognise the achievements of organisations and community groups across west Cheshire.
"Together, we can ensure our borough continues to thrive, long into the future and the results can be built upon to further improve our natural environment.
"I’m delighted the council was able to support so many wonderful entries for this year’s North West in Bloom competition.”
The North West in Bloom judges also awarded more top accolades to other locations and projects across the borough.
Gold medals were also awarded to Rivacre Valley Country Park and Westminster Park, as well as Capenhurst and Ledsham Villages in Bloom, and Ledsham village.
In the Small Park category, Chester's Alexandra park received a Silver Gilt.
Other award winners included Friends of groups, Chester University Chaplaincy Garden and The Port Green Care Wellbeing project.
