A POLICE officer was assaulted during a chase.
A group of men who smelled of cannabis were spotted by officers on patrol in Winsford last night (August 2).
When police tried to speak to the men, they ran off.
During the resulting chase, one of the officers was assaulted and had his finger broken.
Police are now appealing for anyone with information about what happened to come forward.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Shortly after 9pm on Monday (September 2), officers on patrol in Winsford spotted a group of men on Wharton Road, who smelled strongly of cannabis.
“Officers attempted to speak to the men, but they all made off on foot.
“During the process, one of the officers was assaulted, causing them to sustain a broken finger.
“Additional officers attended the scene and conducted a search but were unable to locate the men.
“Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1909598.”
