AN arson attack on a wheelie bin in Winsford prompted firefighters to issue a stark warning.
One fire engine from Northwich was called to reports of a fire in Arkwright Close, Over, at 5.38pm on Friday, August 31.
The crews used a hose to extinguish the fire, and Cheshire Police were informed.
After the fire, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service issued a warning via their social media channels requesting residents go to police with any information they have involving arson attacks.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish a bin on fire.
“Police were informed due to the deliberate nature of the fire.
“Wheelie bin fires cost communities thousands of pounds every year, and are common targets for deliberate fire setters.
“Each fire costs about £2,500. That is public money – your money.
“Don’t let arsonists destroy your neighbourhood. Report them.
“Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you suspect someone of lighting fires.
“Remove the opportunity by taking your bins back in as soon as possible after collection.”
