THE Royal British Legion has issued an appeal for volunteers in Northwich and surrounding towns to help support its annual Poppy Appeal.

The Poppy Appeal is the charity’s biggest fundraising campaign and takes place in the run up to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

Money raised by the Poppy Appeal is used to help veterans, current serving armed forces personnel, and their families, who have served and sacrificed for their country.

The RBL relies on more than 3,500 dedicated volunteers to help deliver the appeal. People can help with distributing poppies or sparing half a day to man supermarket stands.

Ruth Jones, the Poppy Appeal manager for the RBL in west Cheshire, said: “We would encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Poppy Appeal to get in touch with us to find out more.

“You will be fully supported in the role, including receiving training before the Poppy Appeal, and volunteering is a great way to meet new people, support your community and build your skills.”

Nearly 35 million volunteers support the UK’s biggest armed forces charity every October and November.

Volunteers can take on a range of roles, from committing a couple of hours of time, to becoming a Poppy Appeal organiser - leading a team of dedicated volunteers in their area.

The RBL can support with housing, debt and money advice, mobility, and getting back to work.

A recovery program is also ran by the charity which includes adaptive sports, adventurous training, and theatre and art projects.

Ms Jones added: “As well as Northwich we have needs right across the county and all are welcome to help in whatever way they can.”
