POLICE have provided an update on the boat explosion in Winsford which left a man with 'life-changing' injuries.
Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were dispatched to Winsford Bridge shortly before midday on Tuesday, July 30, following reports of an explosion on the River Weaver.
On arrival, a damaged narrowboat, moored up near the Red Lion pub in Wharton Road, was discovered and a 38-year-old man was taken to hospital.
A Cheshire Police spokeswoman has confirmed the man, whose injuries were described as 'life-changing' remains in hospital.
An investigation launched into the incident also remains ongoing, the spokeswoman added.
At the time, police said the explosion was deliberate and they 'were not looking for anyone else in relation with the incident'.
The police statement said: “Officers attended the scene and found there had been an explosion on a boat near to the Red Lion public house.
"A 38-year-old man sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident and was taken to hospital. His injuries are described as life-changing.
"Following enquiries, officers have established the cause of the fire was deliberate, although they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident."
