A NORTHWICH biker who led police on a chase from Runcorn to Weaverham has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Phillip Hunter, of Beswicks Road, was arrested on Wednesday, July 17, following the pursuit after he tried to evade officers on foot.

The 25-year-old appeared in Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where he admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop, at his first opportunity.

Prosecuting, Mr Gore told the court the pursuit began after Hunter and another motorcyclist failed to stop for officers in Runcorn.

Police chased Hunter on the A5117, A56 and M56 near junction 12, near Hapsford, where he was weaving in and out of lanes.

Continuing past schools, the 25-year-old went through red lights before he eventually abandoned the vehicle in Weaverham and attempted to make off on foot.

A police helicopter and officers from the Cheshire Police Motorcycle Unit and the Roads and Crime Unit were deployed during the chase in order to locate Hunter and the other motorcyclist.

The other biker, a 22-year-old from Winsford, was also arrested but was released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Following their arrest, Chief Inspector John Frodshaw, of the Roads and Crime Unit, said: “Both riders are clearly dangerous individuals, who put the lives of officers and innocent members of the public at risk.

“Their reckless behaviour led officers on not one, but two pursuits across rural Cheshire, throughout which the pair showed no regard for those around them.

“However, despite their repeated attempts to evade officers, there really was nowhere to hide and both men were arrested.

“As these arrests demonstrate, no matter what you are driving or riding, we will use all the tactics available to us to ensure that those who break the law in Cheshire are arrested and held accountable for their actions.”

Defending, Mr Edwards told the court Hunter was out riding with his friend at the time of the offence and was aware his driving was ‘below the standard’.

Hunter pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop .

He has been released on unconditional bail and placed on a driving ban until his sentencing on September 12.
