A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson intending to endanger life after a flat fire.
Emergency services were called to Middlewich on Wednesday afternoon (July 3) following reports of a ‘deliberate’ fire.
Cheshire Police arrived at a flat on Wheelock Street shortly after 3pm where they took a 50-year-old woman into custody on suspicion of arson.
A spokesperson for the force said: “At 3.13pm on Wednesday, July 3, police were called to a flat in Wheelock Street, Middlewich following reports of a deliberate fire.
“A 50-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.”
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two engines to the scene, one each from the Middlewich and Holmes Chapel stations.
The crews arrived at 2.46pm and found the blaze had been started by a chip pan.
“A fire in a flat was attended by firefighters who removed a chip pan from the property and ventilated it with a large fan,” said a CFRS spokesperson.
“Paramedics cared for one casualty with smoke inhalation.”
