AN inquest has been opened into the death of a Northwich man who died after being pulled from the River Weaver by firefighters.
George Knight, of Seagrave Close, was spotted floating in the river by a member of the public near Sandbach Drive in Kingsmead shortly before 5.38pm on Saturday, June 1.
Fire crews pulled the 27-year-old from the water before air ambulance staff and paramedics performed CPR.
George was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, but despite treatment, died on Wednesday, June 5.
An inquest into George’s death was opened at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington on Wednesday, June 19, by senior coroner, Jacqueline Devonish.
Mrs Devonish confirmed George’s death was unnatural, and adjourned the case while further evidence is gathered.
A full inquest will be held on Thursday, November 7, in Warrington.
At the time of the incident, a spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters rescued a casualty from the River Weaver at Kingsmead.
"The crew assisted paramedics with medical care before the casualty was taken to hospital.
"The air ambulance was also in attendance."
