IT has been quite the week for Phoebe Hodgson for two very different reasons.

Having been crowned the Whitley Village Rose Queen last weekend, she added another feather in her cap by winning a prestigious weightlifting title at Barton AC in Salford.

The Whitley Village Primary School pupil already holds English and British titles in the under 10s age group but lifted two personal bests this weekend – a snatch of 28kg and a 38kg clean and jerk.

In addition, her flawless technique earned her top marks and the winner’s trophy in her weight category, which positions her favourably for the upcoming British Age Groups in Leeds in September.

Eleven-year-old Phoebe trains twice a week under the guidance of coach Paul Glendining at Altrincham Weightlifting Club and having completed her Year Six SAT exams, she is set to start at Weaverham High School in September.
