DRIVERS are being warned to allow extra time for their journey due to a two-day road closure in Northwich.

Marbury Road and New Road, which connect Northwich to Comberbach and gives car access to the Anderton Boat Lift, is closed for resurfacing on Monday and Tuesday, June 10 and 11, between 8am and 5pm.

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses, but drivers seeking a through route between the A533 and the A559 for Warrington should follow the diversion via Hough Lane and Cogshall Lane.

The cause of the closure is planned carriageway lining by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC).

A spokesman for the Canal and River Trust said visitors to the Anderton Boat Lift can’t access the site from the Soot Hill side, but they can enter from the Marbury Road end by passing the road closure sign.

A CWAC spokesman said: “A through route will not always be available and any vehicles not requiring access to properties on the length of road should use alternative routes.”
