TESCO and a Williamsons Bakery were targeted in late-night break-ins.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after the two Northwich businesses had their front windows smashed in.

Staff at Williamsons, on Chester Road, arrived on Friday morning (May 24), to find the front door had been completely broken out of its fixtures.

They said: “We had a serious break-in the early hours this morning.

“No dough was taken but my baps are known to be priceless!”

They continued: “It happened between 3am and 6am.

“Nothing was taken but windows are costly!

“Northwich Glass have been amazing. Tesco also had theirs kicked in.”

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police added: "At around 6.40am on Friday, police were called to reports of criminal damage at a convenience store in Chester Road, Northwich.

"Later, at 7.20am, police were called to reports of a burglary at a bakery on Chester Road.

"Following enquiries, a 41-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of burglary other than a dwelling, and criminal damage.

"The man has also been arrested on suspicion of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order, and shoplifting."

Thankfully, Williamsons has still been able to open for business as usual, albeit without a front door.

Having shared the news on Facebook, dozens of neighbours and fellow business owners have shown their support for the bakery.

Felicia Dykstra, owner of the Pickmere County House hotel, said: “Oh no, so sorry to hear.

“Hope you get up and running again very soon.”

Sharing the post, Vinnies on Market Street said: “If anybody saw anything or knows anything at all, please come forward and contact Williamsons Bakery!

“This is a small local business run by amazing people who work tirelessly to provide you with their beautiful bakes!”

Lorri Jaye from Crown Street-based Abda shared a similar message.

She said: “If anyone saw or knows anything please get in touch with Williamsons Bakery. This breaks my heart they are the loveliest people.”

Cheshire Police and Tesco have been contacted for further information.
