A MIDDLEWICH teenager has been fined for careless driving after his female passenger was seen hanging out of the car window.

Officers in a marked police car clocked a blue Renault Clio being driven erratically in Leicester Street, Northwich, at around 10.45pm on April 23.

The front seat passenger was spotted sitting on the side window and hanging out as the car was driven along the road.

Once pulled over, Reece Lowe, the driver, was immediately arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "Officers followed the vehicle a short distance before indicating to the vehicle to pull over.

"The female passenger climbed back into the car, and it turned into Cumberland Car Park and stopped. The passenger was hanging out of the vehicle for approximately 100 metres in total."

Initial inquiries revealed the passenger was actually the owner of the vehicle and Lowe, of Manor Fields, only held a provisional licence.

The Clio owner had only had her licence since December 2023 and was not qualified to supervise a learner driver. There were also no 'L' plates on the vehicle.

Police seized the vehicle and charged 19-year-old Lowe with driving without due care and attention, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance.

Lowe appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on May 21 where he pleaded guilty to all three charges.

Taking his admission into account, the bench fined him £277 and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.
