NORTHWICH River Festival will grace the Weaver once again this summer.

Excitement is building ahead of Rotary in Northwich’s fun-filled family day out, with duck races, market stalls, funfair rides and live entertainment in store.

Meanwhile, the usually gently flowing Weaver will be transformed into a 'theatre of war' as the dragon boat race returns on July 20.

Elizabeth Walton from the Rotary said: "Rotary in Northwich are again proud of holding this annual event for the enjoyment of visitors, taking full advantage of the town’s rivers with dragon boat racing, entertainment and stalls.

“The day will end with our fantastic duck race down the River Dane.

“We love delivering this event, with all surplus funds going to local charities."

The River Festival, in its current form, has been running since 2017.

It has grown to become one of the premier events in Northwich’s calendar, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.

At the heart of the event is the dragon boat race, which sees teams of individuals, businesses and charities compete as they raise thousands of pounds for good causes.

Entries are open now, with teams requiring 10 paddlers and a drummer who can all confidently swim 50 metres.

Meanwhile, the Duck on the Dane Race is expected to see around 2,000 ducks set free off Victoria Bridge on Chesterway, sent downstream before finishing at Dane Bridge.

Tickets for the duck race, along with further information about the River Festival, can be found at www.northwichriverfestival.org.uk.
