A POLICE car’s windscreen was smashed after rocks were hurled at it from a Winsford footbridge.

The incident occurred at 8.50pm on Thursday, May 16, on the A54, Oakmere Road, which police describe as 'incredibly busy'.

As the marked police car approached the pedestrian footbridge, which connects Woodford Lane West with Heritage Rise, rocks hurled from above hit it, smashing the windscreen and obscuring the driver's view.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt.

At 4.45pm Monday, May 20, officers received a further report of three youths throwing stones and rocks from the footbridge.

Police are appealing for any information which could help them catch the culprits.

Inspector David Levins said: “This behaviour is incredibly dangerous and puts road users at serious risk.

“Not only can it cause damage to vehicles, but could potentially injure drivers and passengers, as well as cause a road traffic accident on an incredibly busy section of road.

“These incidents are currently isolated, however we are urging parents and carers to talk to their children about the dangers of this kind of behaviour and the serious consequences which could come from it.

“If anyone witnesses this type of behaviour, or has any information regarding the two previous incidents, please contact us on 101, or through cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML-1825212."
