A CARE home near Northwich celebrated the nurses who keep it running.

International Nurses Day takes place on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday, each year -offering a chance to shine a light on the hard work of the backbone of healthcare.

To mark the occasion this year, the manager at Redwalls Nursing Home in Sandiway, Lauren Mackie, wanted to pay her nursing team a special thanks.

Staff were treated to cupcakes, a buffet, entertainment and goodies to take home.

Lauren said: “International Nurses Day provides a great opportunity to formally thank our nurses for all that they do throughout the year to care for the wonderful residents at Redwalls Nursing Home.

“We also get excellent support from the nurses in the community and I was delighted that so many could attend so that I could thank them personally for their support.”

It wasn’t just the nurses at Redwalls Nursing Home, part of the Kingsley Healthcare group, who were celebrated on Sunday.

The home also invited the tissue viability nurses from the local community and the nurses and care coordinator from Danebridge Medical Centre.

Also joining in the celebrations was Julie Delaney, an independent nurse who supports and trains the team at Redwalls as part of the End of Life Partnership.

During the afternoon there was even a special presentation for two of the residents who had been nurses during their careers.

Stan Ramsden had trained as a nurse while in the army while Barbara Ashcroft trained as a nurse before later becoming a midwife.
